10 Ways Teenagers Can Have Fun
When I was young, I couldn’t wait to grow up. Those high school years seemed to go on forever. Little did I know, those were the best years. And once they were gone, I couldn’t go back. My friends married, had kids of their own, or preoccupied themselves with work. Friendships take work, too. I think everyone should make as many bright memories as they can with their friends. Those bonds are important.
So I have made a list of 10 fun things for you to do. Think of it as a teen bucket list to pick through. Some of it might not appeal to you. That’s okay. If you like these suggestions, choose a few and make memories with your friends, siblings, parents or other relatives. It won’t be long before you grow out of your teen years. My wish for you is you make the most of your time.
Create a playlist of your favorite songs.
Music was an important part of my life when I was younger, and it still is. When I hear a song, I can remember what I was doing or where I was at the first time I heard it. Does that seem crazy? Maybe it’s an old breakup song playing that reminds me of when someone I knew got dumped. Perhaps a happy tune blared while at the swimming pool with my little brother. Later, the radio may not play your favorite songs. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a playlist?
Go to a concert.
I was a high school senior when I saw my first concert, Lover Boy. Oh, my age is showing. A friend of a friend had tickets and couldn’t go at the last minute. I went with my crush. We had a great time. If you can score tickets to see a favorite band, don’t miss the chance.
Jump on a trampoline.
Trampolines aren’t just for little kids. Teens can have fun jumping, too. Do it while you’re able. Once you get a neck, ankle, or back injury bouncing on a stretchy mat is out of the question. Gather some friends or your siblings and show off your best moves.
Do a photo shoot with your friends. Ladies, have a makeover party then take pictures. Guys, you might not be so inclined to do that. It doesn’t mean you can’t take a few pictures at an event, maybe the concert I mentioned above or one of the outings I haven’t mentioned yet.
Take a road trip over state lines. If you live near a state line, plan a day trip to the nearest, biggest city or town. Visit a museum, an amusement park, or shopping mall featuring stores your town doesn’t have. It doesn’t have to be an expensive trip. Google knows all the free or inexpensive places to visit, too.
Visit a haunted house in October. Haunted houses are a blast, especially when a group of teenagers go together. Some places have haunted corn mazes, or hayrides through haunted woods. The best one I toured, I was thirteen was in Smithfield, Missouri. The local firefighters ran it that year to raise money for the fire station. After they decorated the creepy two story house, the walls bled, ghouls roamed the halls, a mad man chased us with a chainsaw. Vampires waited for us in dark rooms. I loved their costumes.
Dye your hair. Everyone should color their hair at least once. With all the temporary dye on the market, it’s easy to change it back. Pink. I like Pink.
Go hiking in a national park. Grab a backpack, hiking boots, if you have them. If not sneakers will do. Take plenty of water, a compass in case there’s no cellphone service, and a few snacks. Climb up to an overlook and take in the grandeur. With all the buildings covering the land, a national park might be the only way to see nature.
Build a bonfire, or substitute an outdoor firepit. Imagine a fall evening and you’re sitting around a bonfire with your friends just kickin’ it. The smell of leaves burning is in the air, and the fire chases away the chill. There’s nothing quite like it.
Call someone instead of texting them. Texting has become a way of life these days. Sometimes a phone call is better. When was the last time you called someone just to talk? Try it. You just might like it.
And that’s a wrap. Let me know in the comments if you have something you recommend on your bucket list. I’d like to know. If you had an experience you would like to share, leave a comment. I’m sure it will encourage someone else to try it.
